Selling Your Home? Here Are The Top Home Features Buyers Want To See

by

If you’re a homeowner preparing to sell your home, you might be curious about what selling features will make your home stand out against the competition. Sellers often wonder about considerations such as; is a remodeled bathroom better than a remodeled kitchen, or do updated appliances really matter to buyers? In this article, we’re discussing the home features that buyers prefer, according to the National Association of Home Builders home trends and buyer preferences report.

Laundry Rooms

According to a sample of around 4000 homebuyers, laundry rooms were among the most coveted features of a home. Buyers expressed a strong preference for homes that featured a separate room to hide their dirty laundry. If you have the space to do it, consider adding a dedicated laundry space to your home, or updating your existing laundry room to impress potential buyers.

Energy Efficient Windows

With an increasing awareness of the benefits of energy-efficiency homes, windows, in particular, have been singled out by eco-conscious buyers. Energy-efficient windows work by keeping cold air out and warm air in — or vice versa. One of the biggest advantages of energy-efficient windows is lower utility bills. If your home needs replacement windows before you put it in the market, consider going for a Low-E option that buyers will appreciate.

Updated Kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of the home, and when it comes to remodeling, buyers echo this by showing a strong preference for updated kitchens and appliances. If you’d like to maximize your sales price, consider making updates to your kitchen, or replacing your old appliances with new ones. Many buyers expressed a desire for shaker-style cabinets and stylish marble countertops, but you don’t need to break the bank. Even a simple lick of fresh paint on kitchen cabinets can spruce up a tired kitchen and draw buyers in.

Hardwood Flooring

When it comes to flooring, carpet is out for the majority of homebuyers. Not only is it more challenging to clean, but it can also exacerbate symptoms for allergy sufferers. If you’d like to make your home move-in ready, consider replacing old carpets with modern hardwood or laminate for an attractive selling point.

Master Bathrooms

Luxury spa-inspired Master bathrooms are a big hit with homebuyers and are one of the best upgrades you can make to your home. If you don’t want to go to the trouble of doing a full remodel, consider making small changes that make a significant impact. Installing a new modern shower-head or stylish matte black faucets can update an old bathroom and make it much more attractive to potential buyers.

Outdoor Space

With many people spending more time at home, the need for outdoor space has increased substantially. But don’t worry if your home lacks a vast yard, you can still make a positive impact on buyers with some simple changes, such as brightening a balcony up with pretty plants. For maximum impact, consider creating an inviting outdoor eating space, or a small seating area where buyers can picture themselves enjoying their morning coffee.

Although selling your home can seem overwhelming, creating a positive impression on potential buyers doesn’t need to be complicated. With small and strategic changes, you can be sure that you create a successful home showing experience — and secure the best sales price possible.
